Fill Them In: A Tribute to the Local Rabbits

Our friends over at Gooseberry records have recently put out a tribute album of one of our favourite bands The Local Rabbits.

We were very excited to be included and chose “When You Return” as our cover. It’s got high voices, lots of keys and our first attempt at using an MPC (which includes samples of John McEntire’s drumming in Tortoise).

So now that our television debut is over and our Bluesfest show is done, what’s next? First off, more recording. Everyone is here and there this summer but when the stars align, we’ll be busy recording. We’ve also been planning a nice little show at Raw Sugar on September 4th too. Details to come. -The Soirée

Tributes

With the weather fluctuating unseasonably from warm to cold, we have been keeping ourselves busy with a strange little project. The good people from Gooseberry Records contacted us about recording a song for their upcoming tribute compilation to defunct but excellent Montreal band the Local Rabbits.

We only just finished the song, and the record is not out yet, so we can’t share it with you just yet, but it is one of the stranger things that we’ve ever recorded, so look forward to that.

Best of all, the process got us recording again, and we are set to start recording material for a planned spring/summer release. As always, drop us a line at info (at) thesoiree.net, and we’ll send you a letter.

Babylon Nightclub w/ Cuff The Duke

On October 23rd we’ll be playing with Cuff The Duke at Babylon in Ottawa. (Please don’t read the fine print on the poster because you won’t see our names. We did an ol’ switch ‘er-roo with another Ottawa band so we could get added onto this bill but unfortunately, the posters were already printed…)

In other news, we’ve noticed our Bandcamp site (where you can buy digital downloads of our records) has had a surge in traffic lately. It appears a few people were searching for “wives in action” and instead Google spat out “wives in the night“. If you were one of them, we apologize and hope you weren’t too disappointed.

Home Recording, 24 Hours, & Celebrity Chefs

This is my dining room. At least, it used to be my dining room.

Now it’s the place where we are currently attempting to record some new songs. We’ll probably have to go somewhere else to record the final versions as the heat bugs and my cat crying for an early dinner are showing up all over what we’ve recorded so far.

We were also recently interviewed for 24 Hours about our Bluesfest show and our upcoming plans for the fall.

(I’ve included this picture because I find it hilarious that we get to share a centerfold with my second favourite judge on Top Chef)

We had a great time at last week’s show at Irene’s. Thanks to those that were able to brave the rainy sky and we hope your umbrellas have fully recovered.

But this is no time to pause and reflect. Our next show is quickly upon us already. Tomorrow night we will be playing at Pier 21 with Elliott Brood. Ever been there? Neither have we. But it doesn’t matter as we’re in the “Blues” spirit and happy to participate in the inaugural Bluesfest Byward.

If I didn’t have to be at the club so early, this is what I would do;

Please welcome us back into the world of those who are at least reasonably active on the Internet. Hopefully our new web presence suits us all well.

More importantly, come and see us ease into those lazy summer afternoons with our good friends David Macleod (who hails from Montreal, and is uber-talented), and Male Nurse (who has been practicing, and can now both tune and re-string a guitar with his soul).
